Minutes for SAM Mtg. 10-5-08

Meeting opened with 7 minute Small Group Discussions with each group led by a SAM Council member – discussed Alcohol misuse experiences.

Phil Gates talked about Community Service opportunities and SAM Presentation opportunities.

Ashely Crockett (CASE Health Coordinator) and Pete Ferrara (wrestling) spoke about Substance Abuse Awareness Week –

begins Nov 16;

Council asked what SAMs would like to do as their contribution;

Ashley Crockett provided dates for events:

Grossman Memorial Talk Tuesday, Nov.18, Movie Haze, Wed/ Nov. 19.

Ashley Crockett made a 5 minute training presentation on prescription drug misuse.

Andrew Carraway (baseball) talked about fundraising/charity ideas for Shoot Out.

Council announced Game Night set for November 11th; discussion followed about ways to make it interesting.

Dr. Douvas, recipient of funds from last spring’s Shoot Out, wrote a thank you and update letter that Ryan Hurley (men’s swimming) read and passed to the SAMs.

Ryan Hurley (men’s swimming) made Hoo’Sport updates.

Next SAM meeting will be Sunday, November 9th (which is the SECOND Sunday of the month).
