The Executive Committee (President Catherine Chambers - w lacrosse, Vice President Jerome Meyinsse - m basketball, Secretary Trey Miller - m cross country) was introduced as was each SAAC representative present.
Lee Robertson, men’s swimming representative, spoke about the student-athlete U-Guides partnership involving tours of JPJ that are given on Fridays at 1pm and by request. This is a good recruiting tool for coaches to use. He needs 3 more student-athletes to volunteer.
President Chambers asked for any issues within each sport and none was brought up.
Craig Anderson as the Compliance Director was introduced.
Sign ban at football games was brought up. Trey Miller and Jerome Meyinsse are going to try and work on this.
President Chambers reported on L2K8 - the University’s Student Affairs Office summer leadership conference and noted that student leaders want athletes to become more involved in non-athletic related activities.
SAAC Executive Committee officers brought up Facebook pages for discussion as a reminder to student-athletes that all pages should be appropriate. President encouraged SAAC Reps to monitor teammates on this.
President Chambers notified of SAAC meeting attendance policy:
1. email Phil Gates (pgates@virginia.edu) if you are going to miss a meeting;
2. if you miss, only you will receive a reminder email when your team’s other SAAC representative attends the meeting;
3. if your team is not represented, Phil will notify your coach.
4. Coaches and SAAC Reps will have minutes with attendance sent to them. Both attendance and minutes also will be posted on the Life Skills Webpage: http://www.athletic.virginia.edu/lifeskills/
SAAC Executive Committee officers offered “Beginning of the Year” reminders about “athlete citizenship.” Please treat your facilities and fellow student-athletes with respect.
General Discussion:
Parking passes - not a very good possibility but perhaps we could get a shuttle by UTS that runs from UHall to Rugby 14th. Trey Miller will follow up.
Cleanliness of the Cage was questioned. Catherine Chambers will follow up.
