Meeting Minutes

  • Kyle Rudzinksi talked about Teach for America and becoming a penpal with a class your friends are teaching. It helps out your friends and is very rewarding. The kids learn a lot and respect athletes a great deal.
  • Phil talked about service opportunities and SAM presentations
    • Team opportunities contact Phil personally.
    • Individual opportunities go to the webpage.
    • Presentations- Tuesday (Feb 26), 7:00p.m. in Wilson 301. ADAPT is doing a safe spring break presentation. For teams who have not completed their alcohol-related SAM Presentation should plan on attending.
  • Ashley- ADAPT presentation.
    • Will be interactive. Talking about alcohol as well as personal safety.
    • Spring break plans?
    • Alcohol poisoning: Know the signs (cold, clammy hands/ non-responsive to pain/ not responsive to light/ pulse too slow is a bad sign.
      • Ways to help an intoxicated friend: No puking! If they are throwing up put them on their side. Actively check on them every 30 minutes. If they are in a really bad state call 911. Water is a BAD idea post-intoxication. Mix water in with drinks and when you get home if you aren’t drunk.
      • The use of fake ID’s is also very common during spring break. It is a very serious offence.
      • 25 % of Uva students possess a fake id which is a Class 1 misdemeanor if you get caught and possible jail time. It is actually a larger offence to borrow someone’s id because it is in violation of the Patriot law.
  • Children’s Hospital Visitations- it really helps!!!
    • Every Monday for an hour at one o’clock.
    • Contact Pbf2j@virginia.edu
    • The people who work there also benefit from the athletes visiting.
  • Shootout for Cancer
    • Date changed to Sunday, April 20. 11-2pm (still awaiting approval)
    • Michael Hagos- respond with sizes to him as well as your team sizes.
    • Split up into Shootout groups.
