Advising
Athletics Academic Affairs administrators serve as the grounds liaisons for the coaches and athletics administration regarding student-athletes' academic concerns. The coordinators and learning specialists have contact with deans, advisors, faculty and other grounds administrators who are tied to the academic success of student-athletes.
In collaboration with Deans and Major Advisors, Academic Coordinators assist student-athletes by providing academic advising, counseling, and support in the areas of course selection, registration procedures, major declaration, degree requirements, career planning, and University resources.

Cavalier Academic Support Team (C.A.S.T.)
C.A.S.T is a flexible system that provides academic resources and increased academic support to student-athletes. C.A.S.T allows Athletics Academic Affairs to measure the quantity and the quality of the student-athletes' work throughout the semester.
The system includes a task-based study hall, a full mentoring program, as well as an appointment-based tutoring program.
-
The task-based study hall uses task sheets rather than an 'hourly' system to monitor the student-athletes' progress in course completion. The task-based system teaches student-athletes responsibility, organization, preparation and effective time-management skills

Learning Needs
The Learning Specialist (LS) works collaboratively with the Learning Needs and Evaluation Center (LNEC) on grounds to assist our student-athletes. The LS will discuss learning difficulties a student is encountering, explore available resources, and assist with referrals for LD/ADHD testing or counseling. If student's have had previous comprehensive testing and received academic accommodations in the past, the LS will have that testing reviewed to determine if accommodations are applicable at UVA. If previous testing does not meet current UVA requirements the LS may discuss whether updated testing would be useful.
